In a green economy GDP has had its day

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been prominent in economic policy-making since World War II, but today it has had its day. In a green and social economy, GDP is no longer a sufficient measure. GDP ignores for example nature, social bonds, health of populations and trust in institutions. Economists from amongst others Cambridge University contributed to a more inclusive measurement of wealth. Their research provides the foundation for the ‘Inclusive Wealth’ reports from the UN and for India’s ‘Green National Accounting’ framework.
